Professional singers and actors present a live reading of the new musical, A Beautiful Place, a moving tribute to Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, a Bauhaus-educated artist, interned at Terezin concentration camp. Terezin was deceptively called “a beautiful place” as a propaganda tool by the International Red Cross after visiting the concentration camp in June 1944. The musical tells the story of Friedel, the art teacher in Terezin, who gave comfort, hope and inspiration to hundreds of Jewish children under unimaginable conditions. Friedl and most of the children she taught did not survive the Shoah. We remember them through the remarkable power of their art and imagination. A Beautiful Place is written by Michael and Linda Grady, with music by Craig Bohmler, and lyrics by Steven Mark Kohn.
